The ntCDR provides a low cost, all-digital flexible solution suitable for clock/data recovery in communication systems. It provides a low gate count implementation that allows designers to include the core as an integral part of their modems.
The purpose of the ntCDR is to generate a clock with frequency and phase locked to the serial input NRZ data, in order to sample them in the optimum eye-diagram point. It uses an external reference clock in order to implement a frequency aided acquisition system. It also exhibits an algorithm that provides jitter reduction.
